Buddhist Wedding at Fo Guang Shan Toronto Celebrates a Union Across Cultures

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held a Buddhist Wedding Ceremony on September 26, with Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan officiating. Groom Dai Phuong Ngo and bride Thi Nguyet Anh Bui exchanged vows before the Buddha, witnessed by more than 100 family members and friends from Vietnam, the United States, Canada, and beyond. In a solemn and joyful ceremony, Venerable Chueh Fan encouraged the newlyweds to build their marriage on mutual respect, love, and support, with the Buddha’s teachings as their guide. The couple pledged to share responsibilities, support one another, and walk through life together.

Toronto Fo Guang Members Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with Dharma and Fellowship

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 25 with an outdoor Dharma talk and reading gathering, bringing together more than 100 participants for an evening of Dharma, music, mooncakes and fellowship in the temple’s Chan garden.

Resounding drums and vibrant lion dances filled Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto on February 22 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year), as nearly 400 guests gathered for the 2026 New Year Cultural Showcase, themed “Harmony and Coexistence, Galloping Towards Success.” Families and community members came together to celebrate the season through culture, artistry, and shared blessings.

Following the Thousand Buddhas Dharma Service, Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan expressed sincere appreciation to the hundreds of volunteers whose dedicated service ensured the orderly and uplifting success of the celebrations, and extended blessings of peace and auspiciousness for the year ahead.

Fo Guang Shan Toronto Chinese New Year’s Eve Dharma Service Welcomes 5,000 in Joy and Blessings

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto welcomed more than 5,000 visitors on February 16 for its Chinese New Year’s Eve Dharma Service, marking the pinnacle of its Lunar New Year celebrations. Devotees and community members from diverse cultural backgrounds gathered to offer incense, receive blessings, and joyfully usher in the Year of the Horse. The evening was enriched by a lively New Year Fair, lion and dragon dances, and the traditional God of Wealth procession, with a steady flow of well-wishers continuing until midnight.

When Social Work Meets Humanistic Buddhism: Fo Guang Shan Toronto Engages Wilfrid Laurier University

At the invitation of the Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, Venerable Zhi Guan, Superintendent of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, together with Temple staff Cindy Choi and five volunteers, visited the university campus on February 13 to present a cultural lecture titled “Welcoming the New Year: Humanistic Buddhism and Social Care.” Nearly 20 Master of Social Work students participated in the session.

First Outreach to Public School: Fo Guang Shan Toronto Promotes the Three Acts of Goodness Through Culture

On February 12, at the gracious invitation of Principal Fayza Prebtani, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto was honored to participate in the Lunar New Year celebration at Markham Gateway Public School as the sole invited community organization. Guided by Fo Guang Shan’s objective “propagating the Dharma through culture,” the Temple brought the spirit of the Three Acts of Goodness—Do Good Deeds, Speak Good Words, Think Good Thoughts—into the school community through meaningful and engaging cultural activities. More than 200 students, parents, and educators gathered to welcome the Year of the Horse in an atmosphere of joy and shared learning.
