Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held a Buddhist Wedding Ceremony on September 26, with Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan officiating. Groom Dai Phuong Ngo and bride Thi Nguyet Anh Bui exchanged vows before the Buddha, witnessed by more than 100 family members and friends from Vietnam, the United States, Canada, and beyond. In a solemn and joyful ceremony, Venerable Chueh Fan encouraged the newlyweds to build their marriage on mutual respect, love, and support, with the Buddha’s teachings as their guide. The couple pledged to share responsibilities, support one another, and walk through life together.

Ngo’s connection with Fo Guang Shan began in 2016 with a visit to Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan. After coming to Canada to study, he continued his Dharma journey by participating in a Youth Temple Retreat. More recently, with encouragement from Venerable Zhi Guan, the couple took refuge in the Triple Gem and received the precepts together. Their Dharma names both begin with the Chinese character Ren (忍), meaning patience—a meaningful reminder to approach married life with patience and mutual respect. Ngo expressed gratitude to the monastics and volunteers for their support and blessings and shared his hope to put Buddhist teachings into practice in married life and share this Dharma affinity with others.

Bui said choosing a Buddhist wedding was more than celebrating their union; it was also an opportunity to reflect on the kind of family they hope to build together—one grounded in love, understanding, respect, and compassion. For many guests, this was their first visit to a Buddhist temple. The couple introduced the meaning of a Buddhist wedding and shared how Buddhist values of respect, tolerance, andcompassion can be put into practice in family life.

The ceremony concluded with the Toronto Buddha’s Light Choir performing “A Perfect Union” (美滿姻緣), bringing a warm and joyful close to a celebration that united families, cultures, and faith.
