Interfaith Unity in Action: Fo Guang Shan Toronto Joins Charity Skydive for Trillium Health Partners

On July 12, the Muslim community in Mississauga hosted a “Charity Skydive” at Skydive SWOOP in support of the Trillium Health Partners Foundation’s $5 million fundraising campaign. Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto actively participated, with Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan, BLIA Board Director Mr. Leunghung Lo, Localization Group Leader Mr. Wilson Yau, and a 12-member delegation representing the Buddhist community attending the opening ceremony. The temple also provided sponsorship, while Fo Guang Shan Youth and students from Fo Guang University joined the skydive to raise awareness for the cause.

Fo Guang Shan Toronto Hosts 5-Day “Three Acts of Goodness Drum Camp” for Youth

From July 7 to 11, Fo Guang Shan Temple Toronto held its five-day “3 Beats of Goodness Drum Camp,” welcoming over 40 youth aged 6 to 18. Participants explored the art of the 24 Seasons Drum—recognized as part of Malaysia’s intangible cultural heritage—as well as traditional Chinese lion dance. Under the guidance of monastics, they also learned Buddhist etiquette and practiced meditation.

Buddha’s Light Choir Toronto Spreads Joy at 35th Overseas Chinese Choirs Festival

On July 5, the Buddha’s Light Choir of Toronto touched hearts with its uplifting performance at the 35th Overseas Chinese Choirs Festival, held at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. The highly anticipated cultural event brought together over 500 performers from 14 Chinese community choirs and attracted an audience of nearly 1,000 music lovers.

University of Toronto and Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Launch Institute of Humanistic Buddhist Thought and Practice

On July 4, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the University of Toronto signed a preliminary funding agreement to establish the Institute of Humanistic Buddhist Thought and Practice. The signing ceremony, held at Fo Guang Shan Temple, was officiated by Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan and Dr. Nicholas Terpstra, Provost of Trinity College, University of Toronto.

On July 1, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto celebrated the 158th anniversary of Canada’s founding with a vibrant and uplifting “Pray for Canada & Temple Open House,” drawing nearly 1,000 guests from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Blending national pride with spiritual reflection, the event invited participants to celebrate unity while cultivating peace from within.

Planting Seeds of Compassion: Fo Guang Shan Toronto Hosts Joyful and Meaningful Children’s Summer Camp

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto welcomed the start of summer with heartwarming energy as it hosted the Three Acts of Goodness Children’s Summer Camp from June 28 to July 1. Seventy children and youth counselors came together for four days of fun, friendship, and spiritual discovery—blending learning and laughter in a vibrant program designed to nurture kindness, empathy, and inner growth.

“If Not Me, Then Who?” Volunteers’ Aspiration to Take Care of the Temple

Due to the pandemic, all Dharma services and activities at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto have been held online for the past two years. Many decoration materials have been stored in the storage behind the temple garage and space for a long time. To prevent the breeding of insects and to keep the temple environment neat, the members volunteered to clean up the storage spaces On October 16 and 23.

Begin from the Self – Buddha’s Light Children Dharma Class Fall 2021 Program

The 2021 fall semester of Buddha’s Light Children Dharma Class officially kicked off on October 10th with 40 children of age 5-13 from across Canada and the US in attendance. The Children Dharma Class community of students, teaching assistants, and teachers gathered online to celebrate a new chapter of growth upon the wonderful occasion of Canadian Thanksgiving.

Strengthen Members’ Skills – Buddha’s Light Spiritual Care Group Gathering

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Buddha’s Light Spiritual Care Group continues to host training and learning sessions virtually for its team of volunteers. In order to further prepare the volunteers, an in-person gathering at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Tea House was organized on September 25 for the first time.

Joint Effort in Supporting the Temple Maintenance

On Sept 11, the temple had its first painting maintenance. A total of 15 members from the Buddha's Light International Association of Toronto Mississauga sub-chapters arrived early in the morning to undertake the task of painting the temple railings.
