On May 11, in a moving expression of faith, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto welcomed over 50 new disciples into Buddhism through the solemn Triple Gem Refuge Ceremony. The event highlighted both the rarity and deep joy of taking refuge, as participants formally pledged their commitment to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

On May 10, love and tradition came together in harmony as Michelle Tang and Andy Cheung were united in Bodhi marriage at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, surrounded by family, friends, and the blessings of the Buddha. The ceremony, held in the temple’s Main Shrine, was officiated by Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan, who guided the couple through a solemn Buddhist wedding. Michelle, daughter of long-time Buddha’s Light member and Richmond Hill BLIA Subchapter Advisor Sally Kwok, grew up in the Fo Guang community and chose to begin this new chapter where her spiritual roots lie.

On May 8, The Buddha’s Light Choir of Toronto hosted a “Fundamental Music Theory Workshop” at the Fo Guang Shan Temple, as part of the City of Toronto’s “Multicultural Music Workshop for Seniors Project.” The event aimed to enhance musical literacy and promote cultural appreciation among seniors and local community members.

On May 4, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto held the opening ceremony for the “Harmony in the Himalayas” photography exhibition, co-curated with world-renowned photographer and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jon Kolkin. The event welcomed nearly 1,000 attendees, including photography enthusiasts, community leaders, and cultural figures, for a meaningful experience focused on happiness and inner peace.

On May 4, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto welcomed over 2,000 visitors to its grand multicultural celebration of Buddha’s Birthday, fostering harmony, compassion, and inclusion across the Greater Toronto Area. The event featured a traditional Buddha bathing ceremony, family-friendly activities, a 3D immersive film, a photography exhibition, and freshly prepared vegetarian cuisine.
