Toronto YAD Sutra Transcription Event for Lantern Festival Celebration

February 4, 2023

To celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival, Toronto YAD hosted a Sutra Transcription event on February 4, 2023. A total of 17 young adults from the GTA gathered together in Markham BLC to learn the Buddhism teachings from the Venerable, hand copy the Heart Sutra, have dinner with the big family and play escape room games.

All the participants came to the event despite the snowy cold weather, which brought plenty of positive vibe to the post-pandemic time. The event kicked off with Fo Guang Shan’s Founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s lecture video, followed by the Sutra Transcription instructions from Venerable Ru Xing, Guiding Venerable of Toronto YAD. The whole procedure of the Sutra Transcription was conducted in both English and Chinese, to make it easier for the young adults to understand the meaning and essentials behind it. It also provided the opportunity for all the participants to know more about FGS Temple of Toronto, the Founder of Fo Guang Shan and the concepts of Humanistic Buddhism.

After the event, everyone had dinner together and went to Omescape Scarborough to join the in-person escape room games. The fun experience enhanced the friendship and motivated everyone to engage in physical exercise as well. This activity ended up with an abundance of enthusiasm and joy in the participating group.
