Toronto Delegation Strengthens Dharma Mission at Buddha’s Light North America Fellowship Meeting

From April 18 to 20, a delegation often members from the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter, led by Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and Venerable Ru Zhong, traveled to the JW Marriott Conference Center in Austin, Texas, to participate in the 2025 BLIA North America Fellowship Meeting. Nearly 500 Buddha’s Light members from 26 chapters across North America gathered to deepen their understanding of Humanistic Buddhism and to exchange ideas.

The BLIA Toronto Chapter was honored with the "Chapter Promotion Award" for its outstanding efforts inpromoting the BLIA Buddhist Examination, consistently ranking among the top chapters for five consecutive years. The award was presented by the Secretary-general of the BLIA World Headquarters. Additionally, four Toronto members were certified as 2025–2026 North America Dharma Speakers, formally committing themselves to the noble mission of Dharma propagation.

Newly certified Dharma Speaker Aiqing Liu shared that receiving certification was not only an honor but also a solemn commitment. Encouraged by Venerable Chueh Fan, she vowed to embody the teachings of the Dharma through her actions. Catherine Lee of the Markham Subchapter expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to share Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teachings in both Mandarin and Cantonese, aspiring to help more people "understand, benefit from, and enjoy" the wisdom of Buddhism.

Xiaoyang Du, President of the Da Tze Subchapter Two, participated in a discussion on "Equality Between Monastics and Laypeople," expressing deep appreciation for Fo Guang Shan’s inclusive lay-monastic collaboration model, which supports diverse and contemporary expressions of the Dharma. Although unable to attend in person, Tiger Chen, Advisor of the Da Tze Subchapter Two, was also certified as a Dharma Speaker, demonstrating steadfast dedication to spreading the Dharma.

First-time participant Huiyan Zhuang reflected that every session of the conference vividly demonstrated Humanistic Buddhism’s core value of applying the Dharma in daily life, deepening both herfaith and motivation for practice.

Venerable Ru Zhong emphasized the importance of developing distinctive and impactful subchapter activities aligned with the global themes set by the BLIA World Headquarters. Venerable Chueh Fan encouraged Toronto members to continue strengthening their teamwork, execution, and cohesion, advancing the mission of Dharma propagation with compassion, wisdom, and a spirit of service to society.
