- A Heartfelt Tribute of Gratitude and Goodness

On October 26, the 6th Meadowvale Scouts (Buddha’s Light Scouts of Toronto) held their annual “Apple Day” at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. More than forty Scouts and leaders gathered to express gratitude and practice the Three Acts of Goodness —to do good deeds, speak good words, and think good thoughts —through meaningful service and joyful teamwork.

The day began in the Five Contemplations Hall, where Scouts of all levels—Beavers, Cubs,Scouts, and Venturers—worked together with care and discipline. They polishedeach bright red apple and placed them neatly into small baskets, preparing forthe symbolic apple offering to the Buddha. Underthe guidance of leaders Joanna Leung and Debbie Choi, and with the presenceof Venerable Ru An, the Scouts entered the Main Shrine in solemn procession. There, they learned that an offering isnot only a gesture of respect but a sincere expression of gratitude — areminder to repay kindness with kindness, embodying Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teaching of “a drop of kindness shouldbe repaid with a fountain of gratitude.”

After the ceremony, the Scouts shared apples with temple visitors, extending peace and appreciation while raising funds to supportScouting programs. Their polite greetings and heartfelt “thank yous” reflected both sincerity and joy. Many devotees responded warmly, creating an atmosphere filled with compassion and mutual appreciation.
