The 24th annual Mississauga Community Crime Awareness Day was held on September 20 at Golden Square in Mississauga, Ontario, under the theme “Community Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility.” The event featured booths from Peel Regional Police, the Fire Department, and more than 100 community organizations.
Venerable Zhi Guan, Superintendent of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, was invited to attend the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting. The Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter hosted a booth showcasing Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s 100 Humanistic Buddhism’s Paths to Happiness and the temple’s Spiritual Care Program. More than 20 BLIA members and volunteers introduced visitors to the temple’s educational, cultural, and community welfare initiatives.
Co-organized by the Mississauga Chinese Business Association (MCBA) and Peel Regional Police, the event featured highlights such as police demonstrations of specialized equipment, including a 50-kilogram bombsuit and a bomb disposal vehicle. The Fire Department and related agencies provided information on internet safety and anti-fraud awareness. Religious, medical, and charitable groups also joined, building a strong network of careand cooperation.
The event attracted participants from all sectors, including government officials, senior police and fire executives, and Ontariomulti cultural representatives. Messages of congratulations emphasized unity and the value of volunteer contributions. Venerable Zhi Guan joined a balloon-popping inauguration ceremony, then visited the police booth to exchange ideas and express gratitude for their efforts in maintaining public safety.
BLIA Toronto volunteers from multiple subchapters actively supported the event through preparation and on-site services. Two young members, aged 10 and 8, recited the Great Compassion Mantra and sprinkled blessed water over toy bubble guns, delighting families and bringing joy to the day. Upholding the spirit of Humanistic Buddhism, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto continues to contribute to community harmony, safety, and happiness.
