BLIA Toronto Recognized by Peel Regional Police for Support of 2024 Winter Toy Drive

April 16, 2025

On April 16, 2025, the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter was honored by Peel Regional Police with a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative plaque, recognizing its outstanding contributions to the 2024 Winter Toy Drive. The certificate expressed heartfelt thanks, noting that BLIA Toronto’s support brought joy and renewed hope to countless families during the holiday season.

The toy drive, launched in December 2024 by the BLIA Toronto English Sub-Chapter, was led by Sub-Chapter President Martyn Knowles and Vice President Tyrie Norries. Members and devotees of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto enthusiastically took part, collecting nearly 150 new toys for children in need across the Peel Region.

The toys were distributed through “Miracle on Main Street,” an annual holiday initiative co-hosted by Peel Regional Police and the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation. In 2024, the event reached over 15,000 children, spreading festive cheer and warmth to families throughout the community.

This meaningful act of compassion reflects the spirit of the “Four Givings” advocated by BLIA: giving confidence, joy, hope, and convenience, and embodies the principles of Humanistic Buddhism through kindness, generosity, and service to society.
