BLIA Toronto Chapter Holds First Board Meeting of 13th Term, Advancing Leadership Succession and Organizational Vision

The Buddha’s Light International Association Canada Toronto Chapter convened the inaugural board meeting of its 13th term on January 24, officially launching the 2026 leadership year. Nearly 100 participants—including monastics, directors, supervisors, chapter leaders, and committee members—were in attendance, reflecting strong collective engagement and continuity.

The meeting was chaired by newly elected Chapter President KevinCao. Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Abbess and Advising Monastic of the BLIA Toronto Chapter, Venerable Chueh Fan, attended to provide guidance. Vice Presidents Rachel Fan, Bernard Teoh, and Ken Su served as co-chairs.

Key agenda items included the formal handover between outgoing and incoming presidents, the oath-taking ceremony for the new president and board members, and the approval of six proposals. Among them was the Beauty of Buddha’s Light Photography Competition, which will adopt an expanded format aligned with Fo Guang Shan’s Four Major Objectives. Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan emphasized that BLIA exists not for individual interests, but to bring peace, harmony, and well-being to the broader community through the Dharma.

Quoting Fo Guang Shan Founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the Abbess highlighted that Toronto’s true “abundance” lies in its many volunteers, members, and meaningful activities. She encouraged collective leadership, open dialogue, and the intentional transmission of faith and experience throughout the upcoming three-year term.

President Kevin Cao shared that he assumes the role with humility and a strong sense of responsibility. He outlined a vision of clearer, more systematic collaboration among the board, subchapters, and the monastic community, likening the organization to coordinated land, sea, and air forces supporting one another to move forward sustainably.

Outgoing President Mabel Lam, who completed a seven-year term, reflected on guiding the association through the challenges of the pandemic and expressed deep gratitude for the collective support of the monastic community and members, calling on all to continue supporting the new leadership team.

The meeting also included the certification of the newly elected Head Elder Advisor, induction of the new president and board members, and a membership pledge by representatives of 141 new members. Dates were confirmed for the Buddha’s Birthday Joint Celebration on May 23 and the In Remembrance of the Master forum on March 22. The meeting concluded with the recitation of the Heart Sutra, dedicating merit to members who recently passed away.

The meeting provided a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the transmission of leadership experience across generations.
BLIA members joined in singing Oath to theTriple Gem, affirming faith and unity at the opening of the meeting.
