On May 10, love and tradition came together in harmony as Michelle Tang and Andy Cheung were united in Bodhi marriage at Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, surrounded by family, friends, and the blessings of the Buddha.
The ceremony, held in the temple’s Main Shrine, was officiated by Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan, who guided thecouple through a solemn Buddhist wedding. Michelle, daughter of long-time Buddha’s Light member and Richmond Hill BLIA Subchapter President Sally Kwok, grew up in the Fo Guang community and chose to begin this new chapter where her spiritual roots lie.
In front of over 170 guests, Michelle and Andy pledged their vows surrounded by the Triple Gem. Venerable Chueh Fan offered words of wisdom, urging the couple to uphold “gratitude, respect, and tolerance” in their life together and to support one another as true Dharma partners.
Guests joined in a bilingual recitation of the Buddhist Wedding Prayer written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder of Fo Guang Shan. The Abbess highlighted the special meaning of the wedding being held during Buddha’s Birthday month and reminded the couple to nurture their inner wisdom and compassion throughout their marriage.
Michelle shared heartfelt thanks forthe teachings of “goodness, beauty, and service” she received through the Buddha’s Light Toronto (6th Meadowvale) Scouts, while Andy expressed gratitude to their guests and the temple’s monastic and volunteer community for making the occasion so memorable.
The couple offered a touching tribute to their parents, thanking them for their lifelong love and support. Sally Kwok expressed her gratitude to the temple and to Venerable Master Hsing Yun for spreading Buddhist teachings across five continents, making such meaningful ceremonies possible in the West.
The Buddha’s Light Choir of Toronto added a special touch with their moving performance of Beautiful Marriage, offering musical blessings to the newlyweds. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed refreshments provided by the temple, with many praising the event for its beautiful balance of spiritual depth and cultural celebration.
