The 6th Meadowvale Scout Group (Buddha’s Light Toronto Scout Group) held its annual Summer Camp from June 26–28 at Mount Nemo in Burlington, Ontario. Centered on the theme "Peace and Harmony," the three-day camp combined outdoor adventures, teamwork, skills training, and a prayer ceremony to nurture independence, respect for diversity, and a spirit of service.
On the opening day, Beavers enjoyed crafts, songs, and group games, while Cubs learned to make French toast, assemble solar-powered model houses, pitch tents, and participate in archery and team-building activities. Scouts and Venturer Scouts independently set up their campsites, prepared meals, and handled cleanup, strengthening their self-reliance through hands-on experience.
Recreational activities included rock climbing, badminton, stargazing, and archery. Scout leader Barry introduced Morse code, while leader Alvin crafted the archery target from recycled materials. Venturer Scouts also demonstrated their knot-tying skills by building a swing and a badminton net. Several participants successfully completed badge assessments, including the Flagpole Model and Language badges.
The campfire evening was a highlight of the weekend. Led by Barry, campers enjoyed singing, skits, performances, and roasted marshmallows, creating lasting memories and strengthening friendships. Monastic Advisor Venerable Ru An joined the celebration and encouraged the Scouts to treasure every opportunity to share, participate, and build harmonious relationships through cooperation.
The evening concluded with a heartfelt rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" to bid farewell to Jerry Xia, who will soon begin university. Leaders and fellow Scouts wished him success in his new chapter and encouraged him to carry the Scout spirit into the future.
On the final day, the group gathered beneath the Canadian flag for a flag-raising ceremony. Leader David encouraged everyone to practice gratitude, respect cultural diversity, and contribute to a peaceful and inclusive society. Scout leader Joanna then led the Cubs in reciting Venerable Master Hsing Yun's Prayer for World Peace, bringing the meaningful three-day camp to a heartfelt conclusion with aspirations for peace and harmony.
