June 5, 2022

Since the pandemic measures have been easing in Ontario, the 6th Meadowvale Scouts Group has also resumed its meeting and activities. On June 5th, the group hosted a regular monthly flag-raising ceremony at the front parking lot of the temple. Venerable Chueh Fan, the Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, was invited to represent the Medal of Good Service and Bar to the Medal of Good Service awards to 6 scouts leaders respectively. The leaders were, Venture leaders, Mai Chau (7 years), Cathy Wong (9 years) and Ivan Wong (9 years), awarded the Medal of Good Service. David Leung and Joanna Leung, both Cub leaders, served the group for over 25 years, and Scout leader Barry Kwong (17 years), three of them were awarded the Bar to the Medal of Good Service.

Ken Choi, the Commissioner of the 6th Meadowvale Scouts Group, pointed out that Scouts Canada had a supervising system to commend and evaluate the service of leaders every year. The outstanding awards presented to the six scout leaders of the 6th Meadowvale Scouts Group at the same time, represented the recognition of the 6th Meadowvale Scouts leaders' services that go above and beyond their normal duties.

Venerable Chueh Fan also presented awards to eight Venturers for their continuous commitment and outstanding performance in the past two years. She welcomes them to return to the Rover section to keep up the studying in the group when they go to universities or colleges in the future. At the same time, she encourages all scout youth to exert their scout spirit, be independent, fulfill their services to others, and hope they can cherish the opportunity in the temple, to learn and grow together with everyone.
