On July 27, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto (FGS Toronto) welcomed Dr. Yuan-Han Yang, Director of the Neuroscience Research Center at Kaohsiung Medical University, to deliver a special lecture titled “Humanistic Buddhism Life Lecture – Innovative Treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.” Nearly 200 attendees joined both in person and virtually to gain insight into how lifestyle habits rooted in Humanistic Buddhism, such as volunteering, meditation, and calligraphy, can support cognitive health and delay the onset of dementia.

On July 24, the Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism (FGSIHB) launched the Canadian segment of its Humanistic Buddhism transmission series, hosted online by Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. The opening session attracted over 220 Buddha’s Light members from Toronto, Montreal, and Detroit, marking a strong start to the four-part lecture series.

From July 17 to 20, Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple in California hosted the 2025 Five Precepts and Bodhisattva Precepts Retreat, along with the annual Sangha Offering Ceremony. Sixteen devotees from Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and BLIA Detroit Chapter participated in this rare and meaningful spiritual journey.

To promote the application of Humanistic Buddhism in daily life, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the BLIA Toronto Chapter held a lecture on July 20 as part of the 2025 Humanistic Buddhism Lecture Series. The featured speaker, BLIA Lay Dharma Lecturer John Lu, delivered a talk titled “You, Me, Him, or Us? Learning to Navigate Life from Venerable Master Hsing Yun – Part II.” Nearly 150 participants joined both in person and online to explore how individual and collective perspectives influence spiritual practice.

On July 18, under the leadership of Ontario-licensed psychotherapist and spiritual care counselor Ms. Stephanie Hong, the Buddha’s Light Spiritual Care Group visited the Mon Sheong Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre as part of their monthly outreach program. This visit marked the second anniversary of the initiative, which began in 2023, and brought care and comfort to 17 elderly residents aged 76 to 95.

On Sunday, July 13, the four Mississauga subchapters of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter jointly hosted a Sutra Transcription and Cultivation Event at Fo Guang Shan Toronto. A total of 151 members and devotees participated, joining together to calm their minds and experience the essence of Buddhist practice through the mindful act of copying sutras.
