Meditation Hall

The Zen Hall of Fo Guang Shan Toronto is located on the third floor of the temple. It regularly hosts various meditation courses and one-day Zen retreats, providing a space for participants to practice Zen methods.

The Meditation Hall is one of the seven main buildings in Chinese Chan (Zen) monasteries, traditionally known as the Monks' Hall. It is the place where monks in the Zen community dedicate themselves to daily practice. The word "Zen" comes from the Sanskrit word "dhyana," which means "meditative concentration" or "profound contemplation." It is a method that helps us focus our attention and enhance our awareness.

Zen meditation is not just a part of spiritual practice but also an essential means of attaining enlightenment, realizing one's true nature, understanding oneself, and gaining wisdom.
